John is AgriFin’s country director in Tanzania. He brings over 10 years experience in social entrepreneurship, international development and agriculture. Seeking opportunities to be part of a collective future, he started his career in politics, on President Barack Obama’s campaign, which resulted in a collaboration with a green economy pioneer, Majora Carter, to advise the public sector on climate adaptation solutions. He then pursued his passion for climate smart development innovations by setting up a social enterprise in Peru focused on the production and distribution of water filters and clean burning stoves.
Before joining AgriFin, John led global strategy implementation for Farm to Market Alliance (FtMA), an Alliance of multinational agri-focused organizations that aims to “make markets work better for smallholder farmers”. He joined the Alliance as the FtMA country coordinator for Rwanda and then Zambia, leading country operations on behalf of FtMA.
John holds a BA in International Development from the University of East Anglia and an MA in Social Entrepreneurship from Goldsmiths College, University of London. In 2015 John was awarded the Acumen Global Fellowship, a one year leadership development program designed to equip leaders with the tools required to positively transform society and where he worked side-by-side with investee company management teams in India and Rwanda.
