Elena is the Strategic Learning and Communications Lead for the AgriFin Accelerate Program at Mercy Corps and also serves as its key focal point for Gender. Elena joins AgriFin after several years of secondment from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to the Farm to Market Alliance (FtMA), an Alliance of six global agriculture-focused organisations aiming to “make markets work better for smallholder farmers”.
Working first to structure operations in Rwanda, she then served as the Deputy Country Coordinator for Kenya, responsible for designing, setting up and managing operations spanning multiple international and national partners while developing a deep programmatic field presence with farmers. Following several years of country-specific work, she then transitioned to lead business remodeling and operationalization across FtMA’s portfolio in East and Southern Africa. Other prior experience includes consulting work for multiple research organisations, think tanks and non-profits across Europe.
A German national, Elena grew up in East Africa and the Middle East. She holds a BA in Geography from the University of Oxford and an MSc in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). She is based in Nairobi, Kenya.
